“THE ADVENT OF AURELIUS”

Thoughts, you must Augment

Show your soul is Gold

Often difficult..the Ascent

A journey brave and Bold

To Graciously admit

the errors of your ways

 Finds your Heart gilded

In Peaceful jewels of Days

To heed words of those

who’ve learned from errors Past

Will show your heart pure

 In legacy that will Last

“If it is not right do not do it; if it is not true do not say it.”
― Marcus Aurelius,

“Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn’t matter. Cold or warm. Tired or well-rested. Despised or honored. Dying…or busy with other assignments. Because dying, too, is one of our assignments in life. There as well: “To do what needs doing.” Look inward. Don’t let the true nature of anything elude you. Before long, all existing things will be transformed, to rise like smoke (assuming all things become one), or be dispersed in fragments…to move from one unselfish act to another with God in mind. Only there, delight and stillness…when jarred, unavoidably, by circumstances, revert at once to yourself, and don’t lose the rhythm more than you can help. You’ll have a better grasp of the harmony if you keep going back to it.”
― Marcus AureliusMeditations

“If someone is able to show me that what I think or do is not right, I will happily change, for I seek the truth, by which no one was ever truly harmed. It is the person who continues in his self-deception and ignorance who is harmed.” ― Marcus AureliusMeditations

“Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth.”
― Marcus AureliusMeditations

Waste no more time arguing about what a good man should be. Be one.”
― Marcus AureliusMeditations

Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together, but do so with all your heart.”
― Marcus AureliusMeditations

Change is in the air…..my heart made to melt with a click of the mouse…the reason follows..like knowing you’ll only see your love once a week instead of two…Trifecta has been overwhelmed, (good and bad), knocking the challenge to once weekly. I guess all I can do is put in twice the effort to a once a week post:(…I’ll miss you on the weekends;)

On to the prompt…if you would like to join click HERE:

“On now to this week’s challenge, where the word is:

MELT (transitive verb)

Before I hopped over to Trifectas site I watched an episode of
Jason Silva’s web series “Shots of Awe” which offered inspiration for my entry…before my words..check out his:

“ZOOM OUT”

Jaded

by life’s trivial routine

he saw no beauty

in places once full of wonder.

Felt no warmth

as his world became shades of black, white and grey.

The Sun, once fiery yellow-orange, now resembled the snowball that was his heart.

A giant glacier in the sky freezing souls , squeezing life, stealing all beauty that the Earth once offered.

Sitting  atop his office building he debated…

Live in this hell that is a cubicle…or..

Jump.

Fly Free.

“I’ve nothing to lose but sadness”.

Tetering on the ledge of the 33rd floor,

A sparkle caught his eye.

A tiny girl…across the way….warm breath blowing on a frosty window.

With her delicate finger she drew a heart.

Meeting his eyes she grinned knowingly.

His frozen soul began to Melt.

For the first time in decades,

Innocence and Beauty showed themselves.

As the Sun warmed his face,

he remembered his daughters warm loving embrace.

We miss you WordPress family…liquid poet and I were in a bad multiple car wreck…we are injured but alive…all the others people involved are ok….we miss writing. .and as soon as we figure things out a heal a little we will be back.

RaisedOnTheRadio-Being A Creep Can Be Live Changing

Creep (Radiohead song)

Creep (Radiohead song) (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Written for RaisedOnTheRadio ...Please drop by and see what the creators of The 100 Word Song, Twisted Mix Tape and a Few other Music Love Posts have made…If you love music…and remember the days of hovering fingers above record buttons..or even if you don’t PLEASE check it out…you won’t be sorry.

Special Thanks to LanceJen and Linda for this amazing concept and all the hard work.

RAISED ON THE RADIO – BEING A CREEP CAN BE LIFE CHANGING-

Before I knew my ABC’s, I knew Elvis, I knew Eight Tracks and absolutely knew Music was in my soul.

Born in !977, My father (David) made sure I knew the difference between Real Music and The Mainstream. He and my Mom ensured I was exposed to music even taking  baby to concerts the likes of Elvis and Santana. In fact Elvis was my first concert “In Utero” (Nirvana later forever affecting my life).

While “The Rainbow Connection” was the first owned 45, it wasn’t until I was 12 that the Radio began shaping my life.

Every weekend 104 KRBE broadcasted live from club 6400…(at this age I was running free as my mom was rarely home leaving me to explore and discover many things, including music…things you would not necessarily let your 12-year-old daughter experience).

In lieu of heading out to Fitzgerald for a show (later in life my friends would buy Fitz and I would book for them..circle of life), every Saturday I would stay up into the wee hours of the A.M. hovering over “Record” waiting…Depeche Mode “Personal Jesus“, The Violent Femmes, and even songs like “White Lines”. Feeling the excitement when I heard the first bars. Knowing that I captured the music as I had a system for the sometimes tricky record button.

At the age of 14, CD‘s had already started to eat up cassette and vinyl…but my friend Andy and I knew the magic of a cassette and the record button.

In ninth grade, our college radio station (KTRU 91.7 Rice Radio) would play new “underground” music from 10P.M.-2A.M., sleeping through first period was peanuts compared to catching that amazing song.

One morning in September, Andy, his brother Chris and myself hopped into the Corsica and headed to school.

Andy pulled out a cassette.  Popping it in with excitement he said “YOU’VE GOT TO HEAR THIS”.

..and what we heard was a song, a band, that would survive the years and affect people in ways never expected.

The first slow steady beat, sad chords and haunting “When you here the phone..” had me. A song called Creep by an unheard (at the time) band called Radiohead.

Those few minutes, as the song played went straight to my soul…a few months later the video showed up on MTV…however, that day and for weeks after I would listen to “Creep”, rewind repeat. I will never forget how Thom Yorke‘s voice haunted.

These times shaped a life, my life and many more for sure.

KTRU, cassette tape and the record button went on to give me a love of punk, jazz, blues and many other genres I may have never been exposed to…and for that I am Eternally grateful.

…and now for your listening pleasure…some of what was heard on KTRU in 1992..enjoy. Including the first time I ever heard this first song..

An attempt to look through your eyes.

This was not a planned post.

Watching you..who gave me such hope, walk away…run away…the saddest view of my life.

Trying to understand. .I attempt to look through your beautiful grey eyes. My friend, you far above my life, will be the greatest loss. Te amo.

Reading articles. .looking from my doctors, my friends, humanities eyes.
The hardest part not death…but my isolation and the weight it lays on others.
Looking at this article through the kind eyes of my gentle doctor of over twenty years…compassionately trying to understand. ..

Those Three Words : Improved :Trifextra #76

Neil Gaiman

Become a Trifectan : Trifextra #76

I truly adore this weeks three word challenge. The following via Trifecta explains why (Side NoteIf you’ve not noticed, Neil Gaiman is in my header. One of my two favorite authors since age 14 and have recently finished reading ” The Ocean At The End Of The Lane”. Spooky, wonderfully crafted and what one may need for a bit of science and awe.)

“One of our editors was recently lucky enough to slowly roast on a bouncy, mechanical floor this close to nearly 900 other Portlanders for a reading (of the third chapter of his new book, The Ocean at the End of the Lane) and subsequent Q&A by Neil Gaiman.  One of the questions asked of him was, “Can you tell us your writing process in three words?”  He replied, “Glare.  Drink tea.”

This weekend, we’re asking for you to sum up your own process with just three little words.  Give us dry wit, pathos or otherwise.  And remember, we like your blood on the page.  Put it there.

(Thank you Trifecta for this choice. Thank you Mr. Gaiman for raising me in awe.)

Three  Words :

Awe. Inspired. Obituary.

Staring into the sun: 100 Word Song :People Have The Power

Lance and 100 word song challenge

I was struck by a quote(” All my desires abolished by the plenitude of their satisfaction”-Roland Barthes) and a friend, and Jason Silva on Love Loss

which inspired the following:

Staring into the sun

My eyes opened in your presence,

For we are both lion and lamb

One condemned to leave this earth

One to stay,

All I can do now

All that’s left of the earthly me

Is show you the way.

My mistaken paths

Things  found good and pure

In life and death

these, I leave for you.

Climb where I have fallen

live where I have died

turn your eyes from sadness

turn sadness into what is  divine.

All I’ve left my friend,

the power I have given to you,

My life, my death, leaves you in

Love,Pure,True.

On fear and happiness

I got blood work back today. ..it is not good…in fact it’s nothing I want to see. I’m sick…I’ve been nauseous all day and can’t eat. I know my time is limited but I don’t want it to happen so fast..I weigh 104 I’ve lost 6 lbs in less than 2 days. Left wondering how long I will be able to teach..to see people I care about. I don’t want someone watch me die…its my worst fear other than transmitting HIV which lucky has never happened.for that I’m grateful.

I’m so scared…I’ve never been scared. .I’ve always been brave to a fault. The impact of you on me..spending time with you…I don’t think you realize. ..it’s deep..pure. .humbling.

Nutrition has saved me before but I fear my heavy heart is killing me quicker than planned.

All these thoughts…of how if I can do good for you before I go…insane yet possible thoughts..running throw my brain. How I want you to have my health insurance so you can live freely..like I lived for so long..on stolen time.

Fear of causing you emotional pain. Fear of you jumping ship like so many others. Happiness is~ 60-70% predetermined by genetics..but if I can help in the area where we have choices..it’s all I want.

You are a special soul. .I haven’t felt safe around anyone in years…instant trust and loyalty. Please, these are not crazy thoughts. .I’m a rational being…this is honesty.

I’m not scared of death, I’m scared of deterioration and sickness, and of being alone. Today sucks. Today I am grateful. Today I am not brave. Today I am scared.

Freedom: no vamos a ir sin una pelea : Trifextra #75 #

Trifextra #75 join in

This weeks Trifextra  goes a little something like…

Last weekend we gave you a super prescriptive prompt.  We also promised you we’d ease up this week.  As such, this weekend we are asking for a thirty-three word free-write.  Any topic, any style–just give us your best thirty three.

Here’s my addition sparked by Independence day, friendship and loyalty.

Heavy hearts pulled

by the broken dreams of worldly cruelty

walking out

minds focused

eyes clear

hands on shoulders

taking life on the chin

bound by loyalty

they would only go down

swinging.
